There is something so freeing about picking up the camera only when the mood strikes you. Not struggling to tell the perfect story. Not worrying about the rules or what anyone will think. But just enjoying the process. Finding hidden gems. Processing images exactly as they felt in that moment and saying to hell with sharpness and perfect composition or even perfect storytelling.
We had been at the beach for two whole days and nights before I even put the battery in my camera. I took all of these images over the course of 3 days but spent only a couple of hours total shooting. It was awesome to be free of the weight of my camera. And isn’t being free what vacation is all about?
Isla couldn’t get over the crabs coming out on the beach at night and running in all directions faster than you would think was possible! We caught a few and she was a little scared but mostly she loved it 🙂
Cora stayed indoors for the most part although we had a anti-UV tent and battery operated fan for the 15 cumulative minutes she spent outside 😉 (The fan has been great ever since though! Highly recommended!!)
Isla loves swimming at home but it’s 100 times better at the condo pool… why is that? She loved showing off her mermaid school skills to Nanny and Grandpa.
Everytime I came outside my lens fogged up. For like an hour. I decided to shoot anyway… I mean who cares? I’m on vacation and I’m not carrying around lens wipes! It has literally never been more humid.
We ate at the Salty Dog which we do sometimes anyway since we only live about 20 min or so from LBK. But when you’re on vacation, it just tastes better you know?
The Publix on Longboat is fancy and more expensive than the one down the road in Sarasota. We went like twice a day and it was amazing. So air conditioned and full of food. And fresh fruit for whole fruit margaritas which makes you feel healthy and good about yourself when really you’re just a drunk 😉
Finally, before we could leave, I had to get some pictures of Isla in this bathing suit to end all bathing suits. I mean, it is my favorite article of clothing I have ever bought either of the girls! Sign this one up for synchronized swimming please!!! (Warning: she will not take direction)
It was a really nice break from reality in our own backyard…
