August 28, 2014…
It started with an alligator staring me in the face and ended exactly the same way. And I’m not even trying to be cute or poetic or whatever – I am literally just now realizing that a good 90% of these photographs feature some variety of alligator.
So Isla’s latest obsession is Sarasota Jungle Gardens. My mom takes her about once a week so I didn’t think I needed to get an annual pass for myself. I figured it could be an Isla-and-Nanny thing. However, the constant Jungle Gardens talk had me feeling like surely I was missing something! And since 15 pictures of my laundry seemed like just about enough, I pulled Isla out of school a couple hours earlier than usual so I could see what all the fuss was about. And yeah, it’s pretty amazing actually!
Let’s see… what else is worth a little extra explanation? We wake up to reptiles and a huge golden retriever in our bed every morning. Isla doesn’t like to dirty an extra dish for no reason so she puts the dog food and water in the same bowl. Such a resourceful little thing!
A little singing on the way to school of course … “I’mmmmmmm gonna swiiiiiiiiiing from the chandeliiiiiiierrrrrr, from the CHANDELIERRRRRRR!”
Oh and a pony tail captured in shadow – I have seen that picture in my mind a dozen times and I’m so glad I had my camera on me before her shadow started changing.
Lots of laundry followed by lunch (for me) on a kiddie plate. Portion control or no clean dishes? I’ll let you decide.
Her face when I told her we were going to Jungle Gardens – totally worth the price of admission. I wish there was ANYTHING that could make me that happy! Oh wait… there is. Her flamingo impression! <3 And she was all about the flamingos until about 25 of them swarmed her like the walking dead! They actually are kinda scary! Feeding the turtles were more her speed. We stopped for a gourmet popsicle at Popcraft and had a major bathroom emergency. Then rushed home because I forgot an extra diaper (seriously am I new??) while I prayed to SBJ that she would not pee on her new-ish carseat. After lunch she colored Dora with Dexter, told me all about the flamingos and then watched a little Netflix while drinking chocolate milk from a bottle. Because it's either that or nursing so I say 'bring on the chocolate milk bottles'! Once we got word that Daddy was almost home, we stood on the driveway waiting for him to pull up so we could eat dinner at Chipotle cause all this picture takin' was making us hungry. Found a magical Grandpa dime. (Just like I did on my very first DITL and every one since!) Back home in time for a shower and story time with her collection of reptiles. And of course, she just couldn't fall asleep wearing anything but her gator t-shirt.
